Winners of "MASC KENT CHOIR OF THE YEAR 2018' - Kent Soul Choirs comprise of three independent choirs, Whitstable, Canterbury and Rochester in four weekly sessions. Each choir has its own membership and identity but both rehearse and perform the same classic to modern soul music. From the original RnB singers of the 60's such as The Four Tops and Stevie Wonder right through to modern Soul from artists such as Prince and Beyonce, there is something for anyone who loves this genre of music.
The KSC's are adult (18+) community choirs open to all with the unified goal of singing, making friends and performing great music. We have some members who have never sung before, some who have previously studied music (as a child or adult), through to some who are involved in other semi-professional musical projects. These are definitely choirs for you no matter what your skill or experience level is. There is space for you to gradually build on your confidence in your own time, or to be challenged and take the limelight with solos if you want to.
The choirs often come together for concerts so there is the benefit of rehearsing in an intimate choir setting where you can really work on the music in detail, and then performing as part of a much larger choir to hear how it all comes together and feel the excitement of singing in a large group performance.
Kent Soul Choirs are directed by Internationally acclaimed Vocalist Abi Gilchrist (as heard on CBeebies 'Do You Know' and voice of Monkey Music) www.abigilchrist.co.uk and Musical Director / Composer Ross Power (Producer and MD of shows at London's Southbank Centre) www.rosspowermusic.com
The KSCs are the Kent branch of the London Soul Choirs (www.londonsoulchoirs.co.uk) established in 2010.
Since starting in 2015, Kent Soul Choirs have performed at local events such as Canterbury's City Sounds Project and Whitstable Oyster Festival and have joined together with the London Soul Choirs in performances at The Troxy in London (with Jocelyn Brown) and at London's Southbank Centre. We also performed at Dreamland Margate for the Camp Bestival Easter Party 2019.
We always perform an end of term concert when all three Kent choirs come together as one larger choir. Proceeds from these concerts go to a termly nominated charity.
Future events include performances local festivals and events around Kent, not to mention the 10 year anniversary of UK Soul Choirs in April 2020!
KSC's are available to perform for private and community events in Kent from weddings and private parties to community fetes.
